My dog Grace

These are just a couple drawings I did of my dog in mechanical pencil, while she was sleeping. I was trying to draw her brother too, but he kept moving.

Progress

I still need to work on the cup on tea, but I think the cookies and the spoon are turning out alright. I may just be tired and delirious though... I'm slowly trying to fade that really awful teapot into the background more, but I don't think I'm being very successful at the moment. I'm just unpracticed in water colour...

A still-life I need to touch up from school, I actually like it, despite it being so heavily weighted to one side, but then again I have never really liked crentral focused still-life's. Or central focused anything really... I guess it just doesn't seem "real" to me, the same goes for realism; it's pretty but sometimes just feels cold to me. I'm not sure if that makes sense at all... But it's how I feel.

Finished product? Not sure if I like it or not.

I'm pretty sure this is 11x17 paper maybe 12x18, I used markers and pencil crayon and fretted over this picture more than I'd care to admit.

It caused me a lot of heartache and I'm still not entirely happy with it, but it's done now and so long as my coworker likes it I'm happy.

Commission for Bertie

This is a commission for a coworker of mine, I have finally started to make progress on it and took the plunge and started to colour it. I have been apprehensive about starting the finally stages because I don't want to make a mistake. So far the 12x18 inch illustration just has pencil, liner, and Coptic maker used, but I will also be using pencil crayon and possibly some paint later for final touches. I have until the end of October to finish this piece. No pressure.

This is a portrait of Berite's family, her boy friend, two sons, the youngest son's girlfriend, and four pets. Bertie wanted just busts if the people in her family and herself and full body drawings of the cats and dog. I think I handled the composition pretty well, and I plan on bleeding the colours of the shirts out a little more to play as a background for the animals instead of just having akward blobs of white.

Twinkie

This is my coworker's cat Twinkie, she passed away a couple weeks ago and my coworker commissioned a small picture drawn of her. I wish it was a little better, but I only had a poor quality cell phone picture to go from.

Done on mayfair, 5x7 inches big, pencil crayon.

A Dump of Art

The body of the mermaid is done! I'm pretty sure just the blue alone took me a couple hours.

The tail is complete! Now just for the hair, background and final touches. some hours of work down, many to go.

While at the mall with some friends, I decided to draw my friend's girlfriend's face. She's very pretty, so the drawing doesn't do her justice.

A quick drawing of a sphinx done in red and blue pencil.

This is just a quick drawing done in pencil of a girl thinking I guess? I was not feeling so great when I drew this but I don't mind the picture at all. I might do something more with it.

The Rose and the Humming bird. Not an innuendo at all... These are just the lines of the drawing, I'm planning on finishing it digitally eventually... But I need more practice.

Bus Dump

These are drawings I did while either on the bus or at a bus station. They're all done in pen (all blue except for one in black ink down at the bottom) in my purse-sized Mole Skin sketch book (about 4.5 x 6 inches big) I thought I was being pretty sneaky about most of the drawings but I started to get strange looks after I would stare at continuously for too long

Monster

This drawing is a couple years old, but I still love it. The bone details were inspired by a wolf's skeleton and the hair... a drowned rat maybe? I'm not sure.

8.5x11 inch paper and black lining markers.

Mermaid

This drawing started out as the fish in the bottom left hand corner. It then grew into a mermaid-like creature with sea life in her hair. The pattern on the fish was taken from the place-mat I was drawing on. I still have a long way to go... Colouring is proving to take a very long time.

The drawing is 10x10 inches big, and with pencil, lining markers and pencil crayons.

The Doctor's Office

This is a drawing I did in pen while waiting to see a doctor. It was a pretty long wait and the sketch itself is 8.5x11 inches large.

Sketch Dump

All you lucky duckies get to be privy to my collection of silly drawings done in pencil and pen in my sketch book or random pieces of paper.

The first bit of sketches are characters from the comic my bf and I want to write (providing I get a story line together). We're still working on the fourth character, so right now we only have Eve, Ryce and Jeik.

Every other sketch was either done at work (me lurking customers and security) or waiting for a bus, or even on a bus waiting for it to leave.

These are just some ideas/ designs that popped into my head. The first one (on the left) was supposed to be a girl drawing armor on herself to protect herself. The second I was going to draw stylized doodles in the streams coming from the eyes, but never got around to it. Then there's a random girl and a small sketch of a girl looking up at hanging keys (I think I'll re-draw that picture on a long piece of paper). Another random girl... and finally a girl with dandelions growing out of her side.

So many sketches

The first five sketches were done (in pen) while I was waiting with my brother in a jury duty waiting room. Despite what the (80's) informational video said, no one was happy about being there.

The two gentle man on the left were drawn while I was sitting in a Coffee shop. On the right is a blind contour drawing of my boyfriend's face I while we were in Pickle Barrel waiting for our food, and below that is a drawing of a man waiting for the bus. These drawings were done in pencil.

These are just some doodles I may turn into Illustrations later. The middle one is a self portrait of sorts made up of a giant Celtic knot and some Irises at the top, while the two on the ends were inspired by my best friend Sam (who is peachduck on blogger). Drawing done in pencil and black lining markers.

Self Portrait

This is my final drawing for my Life Drawing class. For this semester we had to pick a theme, mine was time. For our last project we had to do a layered drawing, so I did a surrealistic scattered time line self portrait . Gosh that's a mouth full. Anyways, I took some of the injuries that I have sustained over the years and exaggerated them... A lot.

The oven mitt is from when I sustained a second degree burn to my hand. The hole in the side of my head is from when I was 2 and was hit in the side of the head by a baseball; the doctor's said I had a "y" fracture around my right eye. The trumpet looking tubes coming out of my left ear are from my six ear surgeries on that ear; I had tubes put in to drain the fluid behind my ear drum so I could hear. As for the hear in the glass, it represents two things; my heart surgery when I was 1 and from when I had an inflammation of the heart lining known as Pericarditis.

This is the final result, I added a collage of coloured paper behind the skeleton to help it stand out more. I also added a layer of Mylar over top of the collage and drew a line drawing of myself in marker.

Paper is 24x30 inches large
Mixed media: Pencil crayon, Mylar, Patterned scrapbook paper, charcoal, black lining markers, graphite pencil and a lot of spray glue.

Five paintings

These are my final paintings for class done in acrylic on wood panels. We had to paint a series of five paintings that could be as a group or stand on their own. I ended up painting (non literal) portraits of my family in the form of books.

In ancient times, instead of Gods some families would pray to their Ancestors instead of Gods (or in place of the Gods). This is still practiced today in some countries. Usually there would be busts or portraits made of the diseased family member that the living family would keep with them and pray to for good fortune.

Instead of portraits I painted mini scenes inside each book that reminded me of the person. On the front of the book I stenciled the first initial of my family members' names. I painted portraits of my cousin, my aunt, my brother, my mom and my father.

This is my father's portrait. He sometimes reminds me of a swarm of bees; he's a hard worker but when angered... well... let's just say bees are still an appropriate comparison.

This is my mother, she's been through some hard times in her life and she's finally starting to get over them. I painted a dandelion for her because it's a superstition to be able to make a wish on the seeds and I'm always wishing for her to keep getting better.

My cousin, even though she's only eight is very strong. She has been through so much, and still manages to help out her mom and brighten people's days. So for her I painted a sunflower.

My aunt is a very important person in my life and she has always managed to weather the hellish storm she has been through.

This last painting is for my brother. He's distant and cold to nearly everyone and really doesn't care about anyone other than his self.

Portrait Done in Class

This is one of our models at school, I'm not going to give out his name just in case, but if someone from my school stumbles upon this blog, they (hopefully) should recognize him. This is probably one of the best portraits I've drawn (and honestly, as I look at it now on my screen... I can see a lot wrong with it)...

Anyways, I needed to draw his face so my next project actually looks like him. Haha.

I probably should have put in some shading for a background to give the picture more dimension...

I just need some where to post some art.

Usually I would go to Deviant Art for posting my art, but in all honesty I'm getting sick of the the naked people/ ponies/ naked ponies. Don't get me wrong, I love naked people I draw them at least once a week for school, but I'm not a fan of tasteless "artistic nudes" that make the models look like toys to whomever is viewing the photo.

Anyways, a little about myself...

Despite my obvious wit in the above paragraph where I may (or may not) come across as lighthearted and easy going (for the most part I think I can be);  I am I rather dark person. I just choose (most of the time) to hide my- for lack of a better phrase "Dark Side" with humor to make other people in my family more comfortable. And what was once used as a way to keep myself safe, has now turned its self into a common trait in my art work (providing I’m not having a really bad day).

Like most artist I use art as a way to express myself and vomit out some pent up emotions. Loss, corruption, death, and mental illness tend to be frequent reoccurring themes for me, but regardless of the dark themes, most of my art is quirky and humorous. It’s almost like I’m putting a physical “happy face sticker” over the problem like I do in real life. I do not take any of these themes lightly, regardless of what my art portrays. I have just found that most people to not like talking about such subjects and are unnerved by them, so I guess you could say my art work is ironic (please settled down any Homestuck fans).

For the longest time I found myself soling working with marker, pencil crayon, and ballpoint pen; mostly because that was all I could afford on a regular bases. I started developing a love for acrylic paint while in my first year of college, since it was all we where aloud to use in first year painting, I kind of had to learn to like it (also being allergic to oils and not very good at water colour helped too). I still love the look of ball point pen and liners, but have moved on to executing some of my work in mixed-media.

I think that's all I have to say for now, and when I create something that I think is worth while I'll put it up here.
